Does it Really Help to Marry in a Church Ceremony?

Religious or not, most traditional couples opt to go for a priest or minister-officiated wedding ceremony once they say their "I do's". It's probably the solemnity of the occasion that they are going for.

However, if you will get married in a church – there are a lot of advantages that you will get to enjoy as a soon-to-be-married couple. First, if you are a regular worshipper at the church, the venue where your wedding ceremony will be held will have a deeper significance during your wedding day.

Second, there is a feeling of the wedding ceremonies being more solemn if it is held in your parish church. Usually, your parish church is the one which is near where you live.

A more practical reason is that when you get married in a church ceremony, there are usually churches which have an adjoining venue where the wedding reception can be held.

Now, if you or your fiancé is a Catholic and you both want to get married in the Catholic Church, here are a few things that you need to keep in mind:

  • If you want to get married in the Catholic Church, you should not be too closely related. If you have been married before, there should be a declaration of nullity from the church.
  • As you may already know, the Catholic Church does not recognize relationships between members of the same sex.
  • Finally, you should be in good standing with the church in order to be married in a Catholic wedding ceremony.
