Wedding Presents: Image from FlickrMost people only get to say "I do" once in their lives, so the experience should definitely be worth it. The minute that a woman says yes to the marriage proposal, planning for the wedding is the next thing that the couple would have to think about.

Now, part of the many decisions that couples have to make during the planning is the budget. From the bridal dress to the food at the reception, all of these would require money and it is usually a more practical choice to work within a set budget, so that you would not have to spend an arm and a leg for your big day.

Despite all the expenses involved, there is one fun part that couples get to do: preparing for the wedding registry. Rather than having to face a really expensive wedding, you can instead go for the wedding registry route so that you can have a good head start in beginning a new life together.

Wedding Registry versus Expensive Weddings

So what exactly is a wedding registry and how does it help offset weddings? Basically, a wedding registry, wedding gift registry or bridal registry is a tradition which started way back in 1924.

David Jones and Myer, department store in Australia, both offering the service of using the wedding registry so that the couple can give a hint to their guests when it comes to the items that they would like to receive as gifts.

The good thing about using a wedding registry is that you can use all of the items as a means to start a new life together. Also, rather than receiving two of the same items, you can rest assured that you will be receiving unique items from your guests if you have a wedding registry.

Things to Remember when Registering Wedding Gifts

Despite the fact that it is perfectly acceptable for couples to register for the items that they need, a lot of them still do not know how to tell their guests about the wedding registry.

It's generally not a good idea to place cards inside your wedding invitations to let people know about your wedding registry - because it will be like directly asking them for a gift. However, you do not need to worry because today, there are online wedding registries which make it easier for couples to tell their guests that one does exist.

Also, your guests, especially your closest relatives - would know to ask about where you are registered so you do not need to worry about it. Your other guests can go ask your closest relatives and friends about where you are registered, so be sure to tell them about it.

Finally, make sure to not include a majority of expensive items on your wedding registry. Remember that your guests may not have a huge budget to spare for the gift giving, so there should be a variety of inexpensive items on your list.

There's absolutely no need for couples who are soon to be married to spend for expensive weddings when there is the perfectly acceptable wedding registry tradition which you can use to tell your guests exactly what you need to build a new life together.
